OVERVIEW

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Arrive in Kigali, where your private guide welcomes you and transfers you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, explore the city’s cultural spaces, galleries, or memorial sites, or simply settle in after your flight. The evening is relaxed, allowing you to ease gently into Rwanda’s calm and graceful rhythm.

Day 2: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast, travel south-west toward Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse rainforests. The drive passes rolling hills, tea plantations, rural communities, and changing highland scenery. Arrive at your lodge near the forest, settle in, and enjoy the quiet atmosphere before the next day’s primate and canopy experiences.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk

Begin early with chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest, following calls through the rainforest with expert guides. The experience is active, atmospheric, and deeply rewarding. Later, enjoy the canopy walkway, suspended above the forest floor, offering sweeping views across layers of ancient green, birdsong, mist, and treetop movement.

Day 4: Nyungwe Forest to Lake Kivu

Leave Nyungwe after breakfast and travel toward Lake Kivu, where the journey shifts into a softer rhythm. Arrive beside calm waters framed by green hills and lakeside communities. Spend the afternoon at leisure, enjoying the views, gentle walks, kayaking, or simply resting after the forest experiences of previous days.

Day 5: Lake Kivu to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy a quiet morning beside Lake Kivu before travelling north toward Volcanoes National Park. The route follows scenic highland landscapes and brings you closer to the Virunga Mountains. Arrive at your lodge near the park, settle into the cool mountain atmosphere, and prepare for the following morning’s gorilla trekking experience.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast, attend the park briefing before entering Volcanoes National Park with rangers and trackers. The trek leads through bamboo forest and volcanic terrain in search of a habituated gorilla family. Spend one unforgettable hour observing their social bonds, quiet gestures, and powerful presence before returning to the lodge.

Day 7: Optional Experience and Return to Kigali

Spend the morning at leisure or add golden monkey tracking, a cultural visit, or a conservation-focused experience near Volcanoes National Park. Afterward, return to Kigali by private transfer. Depending on your onward schedule, enjoy lunch, a short city stop, or direct airport drop-off for your departure flight.
